Products - Co-rotating Twin Screw Extruders

The Co-rotating Twin Screw Extruder and the associated automation are state-of-the-art. The use of technology to achieve optimum energy saving screw geometry, use of special materials and specific surface treatment, incorporation of modern drive systems, and enveloping all this through user-friendly and efficient automation, has empowered STEER to offer a highly efficient Co-rotating Twin Screw Extruder loaded with positive features.

   Main Drive

Modern, infinitely variable speed range, direct torque control drives are incorporated. These include the main drive AC motor as well as the microprocessor based digital drive controllers.
The drive controller is equipped with full protection for the motor and also complete interlocks for safe operation of the Extruder and its peripherals.
   Torque Limiter

Between the motor and the gearbox, is the torque-limiting coupling. This coupling disconnects the gearbox from the motor instantaneously when the torque demanded by the system exceeds a certain value. This value can be set between a range of values, and the range decides the specification of the torque limiter.

   GearBox

The gearbox is sturdy and heavy-duty. It is designed to withstand the duty called for.

The gearbox is oil-cooled. The oil lubrication system includes cooling of oil through a heat exchanger, filtering and re-circulating the oil. Protection is built into the system to prevent operation under low oil levels, high oil temperature and low flow levels. The special design of the gearbox includes allowances for high axial thrusts called for by the application, as well as the capability of transmitting the required power over the speed range.

   Applications

STEER offers the Extruder for all compounding applications, such as:

  • Polymer Reinforcing or Filling
  • Master batches
  • Polymer Blends
  • De-Volatilizing
  • Reactive Processing
  • Melting, Homogenizing and palletizing flow bulk density powders
  • Other Polymerization, solvent extraction etc.

  Polymer Process Trials

Through a co-operation with polymer processors, STEER has developed valuable machine parameter concepts, which have helped in developing twin-screw extruders with high in-built

values for end-user. The benefits accrue in terms of high throughput, lower energy costs, client specific feature incorporations, all without any sacrifices in terms of quality or in terms of safety while operating. Fully equipped line with gravimetric input feeders and strand pelletizer, installed at STEER in Bangalore are available for potential clients to try out processing of their material under production conditions. This would help potential clients assess suitability of the machine.

   Automation

User-friendly controls using state-of-the-art automation is provided to operate and monitor the Extruder and peripherals, so that safe and reliable operation is achieved. Controls can be provided to either control the Extruder from a control room or from close to the Extruder.
